Privacy policy
Effective October 17, 2026
Hearing Shortlist (“we,” “us”) is run by Dilum Senevirathne, an individual based in Sri Lanka. You can reach us at [email protected].
The short version: we don’t have accounts, we don’t ask for your name or email, and we don’t sell your information or use it for advertising.
If you live in Washington or Nevada, our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy also applies to you.
What we collect and why
What you type. When you use the tool, your description (and your answer to a follow-up question, if we ask one) is sent to our server and to OpenAI to produce your results. Please don’t include your name, contact details or other identifying information.
- By default, we don’t save your description. We keep only an anonymous summary of the request: the facts the tool pulled out (such as your budget, phone type and the situations you mentioned), whether a warning sign was detected, which devices were shown, how long the request took, the campaign tag in the page link (if there is one), and a random number that links a follow-up answer to its question. That number isn’t stored on your device. This helps us check that the tool works.
- If you choose to, by ticking the “help improve this tool” box, we also save the text you typed. We use it to understand what people ask about and to improve the tool and our guides.
Clicks on “Check price.” When you click through to a retailer, we record which device and retailer you chose, where it ranked in your results, the time (to the hour), and the campaign tag in the link, if there is one. The click is linked to the anonymous summary of that request. This tells us which recommendations people find useful.
Site analytics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used. It doesn’t use cookies and doesn’t track you across other sites.
Security. To block bots and abuse, we use Cloudflare Turnstile and rate limiting. Turnstile processes technical signals like your IP address, browser type and connection details to tell people from bots. Rate limiting counts requests using a scrambled code made from your IP address. The code changes every day, can’t be turned back into your IP address, and is deleted within a day. We don’t store your IP address with your description, the request summary or your clicks.
What we don’t do
- We don’t create accounts or collect email addresses.
- We don’t sell or rent your information.
- We don’t use advertising cookies or share your information for advertising.
- We don’t run hearing tests or collect audiograms.
Who processes your information
- OpenAI processes your description to produce your results. OpenAI states that data sent through its API is not used to train its models by default, and that it keeps API logs for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring.
- Cloudflare hosts the site, runs our database, analytics and bot protection, and processes the security signals described above.
These providers may process information in the United States and other countries.
After you leave our site
When you click a “Check price” link, you go to a retailer or brand website. That site, and any affiliate network that tracks the referral, may use cookies and collect information under its own privacy policy. We don’t control those sites.
How long we keep it
We keep anonymous request summaries, saved descriptions and click records for up to 12 months, then delete them. Cloudflare’s own logs follow Cloudflare’s retention policies.
Your choices
- You can use the tool without saving your description. Just leave the “help improve this tool” box unticked.
- If you saved a description and want it deleted, email [email protected] with the text you typed and roughly when. Because we don’t store identifiers, the text itself is how we find it. We’ll confirm when it’s deleted.
Children
This site is not intended for anyone under 18. OTC hearing aids are for adults. If the tool sees that a request is about a child, it recommends seeing a professional and shows no products.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use descriptions you’ve already saved, we’ll say so here.
